You may live under a rock.  You may live in a van down by the river.  You may live in a shack like the unabomber and wear hooded sweat shirts so people will think you’re an Al Yankovic parody … Even still you must have the internet and you must be into DnB or else how did you get to this site?

Well for those that somehow don’t know, Soul In Motion is bringing in DC Breaks from Ram Records on May 11th this week.  This amazing Toronto debut coincides perfectly with the release of RAM114 “The Firez EP” by the mighty DC Breaks.  This has been on heavy rotation at the SIM camp and two of the tunes features on my latest podcast.  My personal fave is “Era”, but the title track is right the fuck up there too.

So if you like the melodic dancefloor bangers this is the one for you.  Any fan of Ram, Viper, DC Breaks, Metrik needs this in their crate so go grab it now!

There’s nothing I like better than a promotion crew that’s willing to take chances.  Hey, its why I love working with Soul In Motion so much.  Another crew that seems to be cut from a similar cloth is Toronto’s Sonorous.  With recent shows featuring Jade and Audio, they definitely seem to sticking just outside of the average DnB party-goer’s comfort zone.  This time around they edge closer to the heavy dancefloor vibes by bringing in Black Sun Empire from the Netherlands.

BASSWEEK 2012 is here!

This is the second annual Bassweek in Toronto and this year its even bigger and better.  Promoters from large to small have stepped up to host some outstanding shows at a range of venues around the city.  We’ve got some of the biggest Bass Artists and DJs in the world supported by Toronto’s top selectors of the moment.  If you don’t have a wristband, get one!  We’re building something here and it starts with people hitting up the shows and showing the world how we do it in Toronto.  With that said here’s a breakdown of what you can expect for the week.

For Soul In Motion’s fourth instalment of our “Soul Sessions” mixes, Mr. Brown comes with some straight filth. This one gets the VIP treatment with the appearance of 2Shy MC, one of the top MC’s from the UK. Having appeared for us at our historic Soul In Motion vs Sudden Def show in the UK a couple of years ago, this was the perfect opportunity to work with him again on this cross the ocean collaboration.

While much of Toronto’s dubstep scene is dominated by the more trendy squelching aggressive sounds, there is one promotion crew that is sticking to the roots of the music.  40hz has been instrumental in keeping the more underground sub bass driven dubstep at the forefront of the Toronto scene with an ever growing list of amazing artists passing through to drop a set for this trail blazing crew.  This time around Youngsta from Rinse FM fills the headline slot, ready to give the 40hz Soundsystem a severe pounding.

Considered one of the finest DJs in dubstep, Youngsta’s flawless mixing and deadly accurate selection place him at the forefront of this evolving scene. His weekly radio show on Rinse FM, has become an institution and his live sets continue to raise the bar. Already considered a veteran, Youngsta’s sets have taken him around the world representing at some of the largest events and festivals such as DMZ, Why Not and Exodus.

On a personal level, I think my favourite thing about this show is that Jon and Jenn from 40hz seem to have a plan.  That plan is to bring back big sound to a club scene that has been more about figuring out how get people spending on bottles than concentrating on giving the people a proper musical experience. These guys bring back the feeling of when you didn’t really care where you were going, as long as you trusted the promoter would be bringing in a sound rig the size of mountain to give you a proper chest pummeling.  To me, that’s what its all about!
